"Karabakh is Azerbaijan"
History, Struggle, and the Meaning of Final Victory
Historical Background
Karabakh has historically been an inseparable part of Azerbaijan's political, cultural, and legal geography. From the Karabakh Khanate through the Soviet era, the region was defined as Azerbaijani territory in administrative and international records.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Karabakh and seven surrounding districts were occupied in the early 1990s. Nearly one million Azerbaijanis were displaced, and a long-lasting status quo emerged. Despite this, international law — including UN Security Council resolutions — consistently recognized Karabakh as sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.
The Meaning of "Karabakh is Azerbaijan"
The phrase "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" is more than a slogan. It represents historical memory, legal legitimacy, and national determination. For Azerbaijani society, it symbolizes both the injustice endured and the unwavering resolve to restore sovereignty.

Ilham Aliyev and the Final Victory
Under President Ilham Aliyev's leadership, Azerbaijan combined diplomacy, strategic planning, and military modernization. In 2020, the 44-Day Patriotic War resulted in the liberation of most occupied territories, restoring justice on the ground in line with international law.
In 2023, Azerbaijan fully re-established constitutional order and sovereignty in Karabakh. Separatist structures were dissolved, state authority was restored, and the Azerbaijani flag was raised across the entire region. President Aliyev's declaration — "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" — thus became not a political statement, but a factual reality.
For Azerbaijan, Karabakh is not merely a territorial issue; it is a matter of sovereignty, justice, and historical continuity. With the final victory achieved under Ilham Aliyev's leadership, Karabakh has been definitively reintegrated into Azerbaijan both legally and practically.
Today, "Karabakh is Azerbaijan" symbolizes not the pain of the past, but the foundation of a shared future.
